Ulysses-Trial

The odds are already in your favor.

If you have localized prostate cancer, there is every reason to be optimistic.

Thanks to early testing, most prostate cancers are now found while still localized to the prostate. These tumors have not spread outside the prostate and may be managed by active surveillance or radical treatment. For some patients, the risk from their tumor becoming a major health problem is low and Active Surveillance (AS), with PSA and biopsy monitoring, is an option.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!
If you have Prostate Cancer and choose Active Surveillance, you may qualify to be one of 156 men selected to help in this fight to defeat prostate cancer.

MRI targeted prostate biopsies with the UroNav MRI Fusion Biopsy Technology

An important part of identifying and treating prostate cancer involves meeting with your doctor and getting examined. As men age, their risk for prostate cancer increases as is the need for targeted solutions for this cancer. MRI targeted prostate biopsies is a new technology that allows doctors to combine ultrasound imaging with an MRI to look at areas in the prostate that are suspect for cancer. This technology advances the ability to screen for cancer in the prostate, but this technology isn't avaliable everywhere.

Prostate Cancer
If you have been diagnosed with localized prostate cancer and are choosing Active Surveillance or Radiation Therapy, you might be eligible to participate in one of two clinical trials of an immunotherapy approach called ProstAtak®. ProstAtak kills tumor cells and stimulates a cancer vaccine effect.

The two studies are:
1. Phase 3 Study of ProstAtak® Immunotherapy with Standard Radiation Therapy for Localized Prostate Cancer (PrTK03). This study is for patients that have not had surgery or radiation for prostate cancer and:

  • have intermediate-risk disease (any or all of the following: PSA 10-20 ng/ml, Gleason score =7, T2b-T2c) or a single high risk feature (PSA>20 ng/ml, Gleason score 8-10, or T3a)
  • and are planning to receive standard external beam radiation therapy

2. Randomized Controlled Trial of ProstAtak® Immunotherapy During Active Surveillance for Prostate Cancer (ULYSSES). This study is for patients that have not had any prostate cancer treatment and:

  • are planning at this time to be monitored on Active Surveillance rather than choosing radical treatment.

Specialties of Our Practice

We are celebrating Dr. Sukin's 10th year of performing robotic surgery.

Dr. Sukin was the first daVinci Robotic Surgeon in North Houston and the first Urologist in North Houston to perform a Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy. Additionally he was the first in the region to perform both a Robotic Kidney Removal for Kidney Cancer and a Partial Kidney Removal for Kidney Cancer. Dr. Sukin has performed more than 650 robotic surgeries.

This new technology offers select prostate cancer patients multiple benefits including reduced pain, shorter recovery time and reduced blood loss. Through continued advances in technology, it is possible to perform many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using minimally invasive techniques. These new procedures often provide the patient the same benefits of open surgery, however, the need for pain medication is greatly reduced and the time to return to normal activities is significantly shorter. Dr. Sukin provides these options to his patients through procedures such as cryosurgery (for prostate cancer) and laparoscopic nephrectomy (the removal of the kidney through small port sites) as well as Green Light Laser PVP to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Dr. Sukin was first to perform urolift in the office in Houston.

From prostate cancer to kidney stones and from vasectomies to stress incontinence, Dr. Sukin offers patients the full spectrum of treatment options and expertise while also taking time to provide patients with the knowledge they need to make an individualized, educated choice.
